2027: Osun APC Endorses Tinubu For Second Term, Welcomes 5 PDP Lawmakers
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, on Saturday, officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second presidential term while also welcoming five National Assembly members who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The endorsement motion was presented by former Secretary to the State Government, Sola Akinwumi, in his role as chairman of the Osun APC Elders’ Forum, and was supported by Chief Shuaib Oyedokun.
While presiding over the event, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, pointed to several accomplishments of the Tinubu administration. He noted, among other developments, that the country’s reserves have recorded consistent growth, while states and local governments have benefited from increased revenue for development initiatives.
Reaffirming the party’s resolve to secure victory in the August 8 governorship election in Osun State, Basiru urged residents to back Tinubu’s re-election bid and assured the defecting lawmakers of full support and collaboration.
Presenting the endorsement, Akinwumi said, “President Tinubu has done so well. He deserves another term in 2027 and I move the motion endorsing him for another term.”
Backing the proposal, Oyedokun encouraged Osun residents “to allow President Tinubu to continue numerous developmental initiatives currently going on across the country and vote him for another term in 2027.”
Speaking at the gathering, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, outlined key milestones of the current administration.
“Foreign exchange stability has improved. Fuel importation has reduced significantly, strengthening local refining capacity. Over $50 billion in new investment commitments reflect renewed global confidence. The national minimum wage now stands at ₦70,000. More than 200,000 students have accessed higher education loans. Mr. President has approved billions of naira to empower nano businesses, while millions of vulnerable households are benefiting from targeted support. States’ governments now receive increased allocations, local government autonomy has been strengthened, major infrastructure projects — including the Ibadan–Oshogbo road — are ongoing, and security efforts have intensified nationwide.”
Oyetola also emphasised the appointment of several Osun indigenes into strategic federal positions, adding, “These are measurable achievements. The Renewed Hope Agenda is laying a solid foundation for Nigeria’s rebirth. That is why we proudly and confidently endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027 — to consolidate these gains and secure lasting prosperity.”
He further stressed that the APC remains committed to reclaiming Osun State and reinstating governance focused on the welfare of the people.
APC governorship candidate in Osun, Bola Oyebamiji, described Tinubu’s leadership as decisive and reform-driven, noting the administration’s efforts in helping states manage debt burdens and improve fiscal sustainability.
He called for unity among party supporters ahead of the August poll, saying, “The progressive family in Osun must stand as one. Our leaders, youths, men and women, and all grassroots mobilisers must continue to work together with a singular objective to return our state to a path of growth, accountability, and inclusive development.”
Applauding the lawmakers who defected, Oyebamiji added, “Your decision to formally join us today reinforces the momentum we are building and sends a strong signal that the future belongs to those who are prepared to act decisively and responsibly.”
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, alongside Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, Wole Oke, Sanya Ominrin, and Abimbola Ajilesoro, expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in upcoming elections.
The five lawmakers, who were elected on the PDP platform, attributed their decision to switch parties to unresolved disputes within their former political party.
