Security agents reportedly tried to arrest former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai upon his arrival in Nigeria from Cairo, Egypt
The incident was disclosed on Thursday by El-Rufai’s Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, on social media.

“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir @elrufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation. They, however, snatched his international passport from an aide,” Adekeye wrote, though he did not specify which agency was involved.
A short video of the encounter shows El-Rufai telling the security personnel, “Listen, nobody, not even the President, can tell me I have to do anything,” while advising them to submit a written invitation if they needed his attention.
El-Rufai, a prominent figure in the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), had previously warned that his arrest could occur once he returned to Nigeria.
“Four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested; so it’s only a matter of time before they come for me too,” he told BBC Hausa on Wednesday.
