Before his political entry, he held teaching and research positions at prestigious institutions globally, including the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and Swarthmore College in the U.S.

Public Service and Gubernatorial Mandate

Professor Soludo’s most impactful public service role before his governorship was as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from 2004 to 2009. During this tenure, he spearheaded the revolutionary banking sector consolidation that reduced the number of Nigerian banks from 89 to 25 financially robust institutions. He was elected Governor of Anambra State in the November 2021 election under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), assuming office in March 2022. Academic and Technical Career

Professor Zulum is a product of technical and advanced education. He obtained his National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering from Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri, and later earned a Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Ibadan. He then received his Ph.D. in Soil and Water Engineering from the University of Maiduguri in 2009.

His commitment to education led him to rise rapidly through the academic ranks at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), eventually attaining the rank of Professor of Agricultural Engineering. Before entering active politics, Zulum served in executive administrative roles, including the critical position of Rector of Ramat Polytechnic. Professor Zulum was first elected Governor of Borno State in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He secured his second and current term in the 2023 elections.

His time in office has been dominated by the enormous task of reconstruction, rehabilitation, and resettlement following years of devastating insurgency. His leadership is characterized by a hands-on, often frontline approach to governance, personally inspecting and overseeing projects in high-risk areas.
