Edo State Attack: Obedient Movement Demands Immediate Probe
The Obedient Movement has demanded urgent federal intervention following an alleged coordinated attack on former presidential candidate Peter Obi, former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress in Benin City on Tuesday.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the movement described the incident as a “premeditated, two-pronged assassination attempt” and called for an investigation free from political interference.
“The Obedient Movement unequivocally condemns the alleged coordinated and violent attack on Mr Peter Obi, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress in Benin City,” the statement signed by National Coordinator Dr. Yunusa Tanko read.
According to the group, armed assailants first invaded the ADC secretariat on Ogbelaka Street shortly after a rally.
The attackers allegedly pursued the convoy of party leaders to Chief Odigie-Oyegun’s private residence, where shots were fired at vehicles and property.
The Obedient Movement urged the federal government to ensure accountability, demanding:
An immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the alleged assassination attempt, free from any influence of state actors linked to the incident.
Federal-level intervention by the Inspector-General of Police to identify, arrest, and prosecute both the perpetrators and their sponsors.
