Eko DisCo Arraigns 6 Over Alleged Energy Theft In Ajah, Vows Infrastructure Protection
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has arraigned six persons before the Eti‑Osa Magisterial District Court over alleged energy theft and conspiracy in Ajah area of Lagos State.
The defendants — Abiodun Aremu (40), Okwori Joseph (40), Ebi Veronica (28), Vanella Macaulay (25), Loritta Etim (27) and Oyindamola Adekunle (31) — were brought before Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. T. M. Kassim Adeyelure, following their arrest during a February 7, 2026 raid at a residence on Mayowa Hassan Street, Marshy-Hill Estate, Okeira Nla in Ajah.
According to the charge sheet, the suspects allegedly bypassed the company’s metering system.
Prosecutors filed a two-count charge against the defendants.
The first count accused them of conspiring to commit a felony — appropriation of power — contrary to Section 411 and punishable under Section 412 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The second count alleged fraudulent abstraction and diversion of electricity supplied by EKEDC for personal use, an offence punishable under Section 295(1) of the same law.
The prosecution argued that illegal connections cause heavy revenue losses and threaten network safety and stability within the Ajah axis.
Reacting to the arraignment, EKEDC management reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on electricity theft.
The company’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Babatunde Lasaki, said:
“Energy theft is a major sabotage against our efforts to provide stable electricity to our esteemed customers. When people abstract power illegally, they overload our transformers and compromise the voltage quality for those who are paying diligently. This legal action is necessary not just to recover revenue, but to protect the integrity of our infrastructure and ensure fairness for our loyal customers.”
The company stressed that electricity diversion undermines sustainable power delivery and warned that offenders would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
It also urged residents to report illegal connections and vandalism through its whistle-blowing channels, reaffirming commitment to protecting infrastructure and ensuring fair billing for customers across its network coverage area in Nigeria.
