Governor Mbah Using Enugu Funds Prudently – ALGON Deputy Chair
The deputy chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Enugu State, Hon. Barr. Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze, has said the Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is spending state funds wisely contrary to a claim that he is mismanaging state funds.
Ukwueze, said this in a statement responding to a video by Comrade Kennedy Iyere, coordinator-general of the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalisation Programme and founder of the Obidient Movement.
In the video, Iyere, who described Governor Mbah’s election as a mistake, further claimed that the governor was financially broke before the 2023 elections.
But Ukwueze described Iyere’s comments as reckless, malicious, and driven by envy, adding that Mbah is spending Enugu State’s resources wisely.
He further noted that Iyere once campaigned for Governor Mbah and even urged other candidates to support the governor after the election.
Ukwueze also questioned the circumstances that led to Iyere’s withdrawal from the 2024 Edo State governorship race under the Accord Party.
Dismissing the claim that the Enugu Governor was broke before the election, Ukwueze said Mbah’s asset declarations are available at the Code of Conduct Bureau and that the governor had built roads, hospitals, and schools even before taking office.
The ALGON deputy chairman said Mbah’s prudent use of state funds has earned him several Governor-of-the-Year awards.
He listed key projects under the administration thus: More than 4,000 km of roads constructed or under construction, 260 type-2 hospitals, 260 smart green schools with digital facilities and free meals and a 300-bed international specialist hospital.
He pointed to Mbah’s revival of Niger Gas and other state industries, Enugu Air with six aircraft, security systems with CCTV cameras and modern command centres and an international conference centre and hotel.
“Enugu has become a construction site. Development is visible everywhere, and that is why many groups recognise the governor,” Ukwueze said.
He warned Iyere to stop using abusive language against a governor who leads over seven million people.
Ukwueze also challenged Iyere to provide evidence for claims of secret settlements or withdraw them, saying vague allegations without facts are dangerous and dishonest.
End.
