Maikaba Steps Down As Wikki Tourists Coach Amid Disunity, Safety Concerns
Abdu Maikaba has resigned from his role as Technical Adviser of Wikki Tourists Football Club of Bauchi, citing internal disunity and threats to his personal safety.
In a resignation letter submitted to the club’s chairman on Monday, Maikaba announced his immediate departure. “I would like to use this opportunity to notify the management of Wikki Tourists FC of my decision to resign as the Technical Adviser of the club with immediate effect,” he stated.
Maikaba, who successfully guided the club to promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) last season, explained that ongoing disunity among various club stakeholders had hindered the team’s ability to achieve its objectives.
He further disclosed that concerns for his safety also played a significant role in his decision, noting that he had received several threats during his time at the club. “Safety reasons are another major factor, as I have received numerous threats to my life from some sections of the fans, either through physical attacks or via social media platforms,” he said.
The coach confirmed that the decision to resign was made after discussions with his family. “For these reasons, I was compelled to take the decision to quit after consulting with my family members,” he added.
Maikaba also expressed his gratitude to the club’s management for the opportunity to serve, thanking them for their trust and support throughout his tenure.
