Ramadan: Lawmaker Facilitates, Presents Food Packages To Constituents
A member of the House of Representatives, Abdussamad Dasuki, representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, has distributed food items and relief materials to support his constituents ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.
The exercise was launched on Saturday in Jabo, Tambuwal Local Government Area, attracting community leaders, party stakeholders and residents from across the constituency.
Speaking at the event, Dasuki said the intervention was aimed at cushioning the economic burden on families and ensuring vulnerable households observe Ramadan with dignity and peace of mind.
He explained that the initiative was carried out in partnership with the Federal Government through the commission.
He disclosed that thousands of different food items were facilitated through the commission, while he personally contributed an additional 3,000 bags of rice,where 10,000 constituents are expected to benefit from package.
Items distributed included thousands of bags of rice, millet and beans, as well as cartons of tomatoes, vegetable oil, palm oil and seasoning cubes. The materials were handed over to ward officials for onward distribution to identified beneficiaries, including widows, elderly persons and low-income families.
Represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Hon. Attahiru Danmadi, the lawmaker noted that all 21 wards in the constituency would benefit from the exercise, adding that ward representatives were carefully selected to ensure transparency and fairness.
Dasuki described Ramadan as a sacred period of fasting, charity and prayers, stressing that acts of generosity carry special significance during the season.
“Ramadan is a time of reflection, sacrifice and compassion. It is our responsibility as leaders to support our people, especially during challenging times,” he said.
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons representative, Mr. Zaharadeen Abdulrahman, commended the lawmaker for the initiative and enjoined the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by praying for the lawmaker.
Beneficiaries commended the gesture as timely. One of them, Mubasshir Ahmad said the assistance would significantly reduce the burden on families amid rising food prices, while Kulu Abubakar Jabo noted that many households would now observe the fast without undue hardship.
They also urged beneficiaries to pray for the lawmaker, Nigeria and Sokoto State for unity, peace and sustained development.
