The Enugu South Local Government Area (LGA) is one of the three LGAs that make up the Enugu urban area (along with Enugu North and Enugu East).

While parts of Enugu South are highly urbanized, the LGA is defined by several major traditional communities or districts.

The main towns and communities that constitute Enugu South Local Government Area include:

1. Akwuke
2. Amechi
3. Ugwuaji
4. Obeagu
5. Awkunanaw
6. Amechi-Uwani

Additional Administrative and Residential Areas

It is important to note that the LGA also encompasses many popular urban and residential areas which are often cited by their neighborhood names rather than their traditional community name:

• Uwani: This is where the headquarters of the LGA is located (specifically on Nnobi Street). It is a major residential and commercial area.
• Achara Layout
• Maryland

The traditional communities listed above are further divided into smaller villages and electoral wards for administrative purposes.
