The Queen Mother of the Kanem-Bornu people was called the Magira.

The Magira was an extremely prominent and powerful title in the government of the Kanem-Bornu Empire. Along with other titles like the Gumsu (the first wife of the Mai or ruler), the Queen Mother was an influential figure in the royal court and administration.
